Giraffes Classroom

About the room:

In the giraffe room we stimulate each child’s innate curiosity and exploratory nature to prepare children for lifelong learning and the skills needed to succeed in school and life. We use McGraw Hill Curriculum to prepare your children for Kindergarten. In their time in the giraffe classroom children are physically and cognitively able to take on more challenges while still engaging in important foundational learning like friendship building and developing a strong self-concept. We help your children realize their greatest potential in all areas including beginning reading and writing skills, math and science concepts, large and small muscle skills, and social and emotional development.

Ms. Becky – Lead Teacher

I am 34 years old. I grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa (a small farming community). I have 1 brother named Bryan. He is 2 years younger than me. Bryan and his wife Molly are missionaries in Bolivia and they gave me 2 of the most beautiful girls on the planet as my nieces. Ceci is 3 years old and Lily is 10 months old. My father lives in Iowa and my mother lives in heaven now. We lost her to cancer 3 ½ years ago. She and my father raised us in a very loving home and a very Christian home. We went to a daycare much like this one and I am thankful every day for the home we had! I graduated from College in 2005 with my degree in Youth and Child Development and Bible & Theology. I have been working in daycare since I was 18 years old. So that is a grand total of 16 years of teaching! I have been a teacher, an aide, an assistant, a curriculum coordinator. I have worked with infants through school age. I really love teaching and working with children. I also have training to work with children with special needs: autism, Asperger’s, behavioral disorders and children who have suffered loss or trauma, mental illness. In my spare time I volunteer at Crossroads Church in Eagan as a member of the Worship Team and a leader of the Wednesday night programming for 6-12 grade students. I lead worship and am a small group leader for 6-8 grade girls. I love to read as much as possible. I want always to be learning more. I love to write and I enjoy writing music and may even write a book someday. I like to spend time with my family and my friends as well. I love being at Open Arms! Since starting here it has been a very loving and caring atmosphere. I worked at several large daycares before and in the corporate world in childcare. Open Arms is a family! Everyday I get to work with my friends and people who love Jesus. As I said my brother and I had the opportunity to go to a daycare like this when we were younger and we grew up in the Church. I still remember songs we learned, verses we learned, and the people who loved and cared for me. I hope I can give that to these children as well. To give them Jesus everyday is a blessing and humbling honor for me! I love working at Open Arms and plan to be here as long as God will allow!! I am so thankful he called me here!
