Ms. Becky – Lead Teacher
I am 34 years old. I grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa (a small farming community). I have 1 brother named Bryan. He is 2 years younger than me. Bryan and his wife Molly are missionaries in Bolivia and they gave me 2 of the most beautiful girls on the planet as my nieces. Ceci is 3 years old and Lily is 10 months old. My father lives in Iowa and my mother lives in heaven now. We lost her to cancer 3 ½ years ago. She and my father raised us in a very loving home and a very Christian home. We went to a daycare much like this one and I am thankful every day for the home we had! I graduated from College in 2005 with my degree in Youth and Child Development and Bible & Theology. I have been working in daycare since I was 18 years old. So that is a grand total of 16 years of teaching! I have been a teacher, an aide, an assistant, a curriculum coordinator. I have worked with infants through school age. I really love teaching and working with children. I also have training to work with children with special needs: autism, Asperger’s, behavioral disorders and children who have suffered loss or trauma, mental illness. In my spare time I volunteer at Crossroads Church in Eagan as a member of the Worship Team and a leader of the Wednesday night programming for 6-12 grade students. I lead worship and am a small group leader for 6-8 grade girls. I love to read as much as possible. I want always to be learning more. I love to write and I enjoy writing music and may even write a book someday. I like to spend time with my family and my friends as well. I love being at Open Arms! Since starting here it has been a very loving and caring atmosphere. I worked at several large daycares before and in the corporate world in childcare. Open Arms is a family! Everyday I get to work with my friends and people who love Jesus. As I said my brother and I had the opportunity to go to a daycare like this when we were younger and we grew up in the Church. I still remember songs we learned, verses we learned, and the people who loved and cared for me. I hope I can give that to these children as well. To give them Jesus everyday is a blessing and humbling honor for me! I love working at Open Arms and plan to be here as long as God will allow!! I am so thankful he called me here! My favorite Bible verse is from Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths”.
Mr. Joel – Teacher
I came to Minnesota in 1984 and attended North Central University. I graduated in 1987 with a degree in Cross-Cultural Studies. After working in various jobs and even teaching at a high school in suburban Detroit I eventually went back to school and obtained an Architectural Drafting degree from Herzing College. I worked for two Minneapolis Architectural firms for a while. A few years before Herzing College a friend of mine started temp teaching at local schools. He eventually found his way into an Elementary Education program at St. Cloud State University. I was impressed with the Twin Cities program that they were offering and decided to switch careers. A requirement of their program was that each student find and participate in a local school, on a part time basis, for the purpose of gaining real world experience. Thankfully I came across an ad for an Open Arms preschool teacher in a local Bloomington Minnesota newspaper. I told the first director that I would only stay for “Three to six months”. I had my plans but the Lord had his. Being the first male teacher brought many challenges but they helped me to grow. I have experienced many changes; worked with a host of great teachers; taught many children; have gone through tragedies and triumphs with staff and students, and I witnessed the maturation of this center. It’s a blessing to work here. My favorite Bible verse is 1 Timothy 1:15-16 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

I started working at Open Arms this winter, and I love it. I’m usually in the Giraffes and Monkeys rooms. I plan on going to college to be a teacher or child psychologist. I feel truly blessed to work here. My favorite Bible verse is: Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Hello, my name is Kimberly Mendez. I am Hispanic, 21 years old and bilingual. I graduated High School in 2013. I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota but currently live in Richfield. I have 1 wonderful baby girl who is soon to be 1. I have worked with children for a long time now. I started working as a PCA. At the same time, I had a 2nd job which was at a daycare. Later on, in October 2015 God led me to Open Arms. Working at Open Arms has a lot of advantages. And I have met great people here. We all consider each other family which is great because everyone at a workplace should be treated like one. At Open Arms I feel like I’m heard and coming to the kids every day is great. My favorite Bible verse is: “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will depart from it”. Proverbs 22:6
